The Roman Republic/Empire

The world as we know it today is defined by its history, many civilizations have existed in this world some small and some large. Possibly one of the most important civilizations of our world was Rome. The Roman's were a great people who specialized in warfare and architecture. Some Roman buildings still stand today. The possible peak of Rome was during the Late Republic and The Early Empire. This was a time when the leaders of Rome decided that they should expand their borders to stop possible invasions and to quell rebellious tribal peoples nearby. Julius Caesar was one of the most important people in Rome during the mid 1st century BC. He gained popularity with the people by conquering Gaul and bringing back gifts for the people of Rome. He became a renowned leader in both battle and politics. After a war between himself and his friend Pompey Caesar took control of Rome and worked to make himself Emperor(or as close as he possibly could). This failed and Caesar was assassinated by one of his best friends Brutus. His adopted son Octavian went to war with Mark Antony and Cleopatra after a brief period of being part of the second triumvirate. Octavian eventually defeated Mark Antony in combat and changed his name to Augustus. He then returned to Rome where he declared himself princeps ( emperor) of Rome where he ruled until his death and his adopted son Tiberius took over after him.
